Market Harborough U12s had a hard-fought and successful morning playing rivals Syston.
In their first game Harborough were soon well ahead with a brace of short range tries from prop Alex Tilley. After half-time Syston pinned Harborough back and scored a consolation try but Harborough quickly answered with a beautiful flowing run to break through Syston’s defence from Dominic Cain followed by a sprint to the line to score, and leave Harborough 15-5 winners.
After a brief interlude a different mix of players from each side took to the pitch. Syston quickly applied a considerable amount of pressure and were rewarded with a try. Harborough found it difficult to achieve fluid rugby but stuck at it and early in the second half the ball found it’s way to Iquan Silcott deep in his own half who dodged several tackles and showed a clean pair of heels to the Syston players as they pursued him all the way to the line to score. Minutes later a move from the back line saw Olly Marriott making a determined run to score the winner, with the game finishing 10-5.
In the third and final game of the morning Harborough rotated their players, but with Iquan Silcott in unstoppable form scoring a quick hat-trick there was only ever going to be one winner. To their credit Syston never gave up and their pressure gained them a consolation try and very nearly a second before they ran out of time with Harborough 15-5 winners.
